CARTOGRAPHY of the GARDEN - by Madolin Maxey

In early April 2002, I sent out explorers to discover new and uncharted lands in my garden. I created a yellow string grid over the garden and invited ten friends from different professions and age groups. They were given a compass and set sail one by one. The hope was to find new worlds and report basic landscape formations. No explorer was told what others had discovered in their expeditions to neighboring lands. What they saw went way beyond my expectations.

The written observations of the explorers are presented here. I listened to hearsay, read of adventures, and reported their findings on individual maps. They are combined on this wall to show the newly explored regions of my garden world.
